Designers and Experts Share Their Favorite KeyShot Hacks

by | Jan 18, 2024 | 0 comments

Hack: In the tech world, it’s defined as any quick tip or trick that makes all the difference in your workflow. In the spirit of the new year, when you take a beat to consider how to do things a little better this time around, we asked our own experts on staff plus members of the KeyShot Luminaries community to share their favorite hacks. Here’s what they said:

Hotkeys

Hotkeys were the most-mentioned favorite KeyShot hack, and for good reason. Instead of breaking your creative focus in order to click through several dropdown menus, what if you could just hit a key or two and view exactly what you need? Turns out, you can. There are over 50 hotkey shortcuts in KeyShot, for both PC and Mac.

Custom HDRIs

While Physical Light in KeyShot allows you to fine-tune your lighting, KeyShot HDRI Editor allows you to quickly locate and customize light pins for a super-fast, efficient workflow in a process that’s less taxing on your computer.  KeyShot Senior Industrial Design and Creative Specialist Karim Merchant explains below:

KeyShot Cloud Library

“Why waste time reinventing the wheel when someone else has already done it?” said designer Anthony Mayne. Good point. Just mosey on over to the cloud icon, found in the bottom left of the toolbar, and explore thousands of models, materials and more.

UV Unwrapping

Unwrap UV, a 2D representation of a 3D surface, allows textures or labels to be accurately wrapped on the object’s surface.

Rounded Edges

“The rounded edges feature really helps bring realism to 3D models that may not have finer details like chamfers and fillets modeled into the geometry.” -Designer Oliver Yu

And More

KeyShot Creative Specialist Saskia Fallia shares more tips and tricks to make your workflow faster and easier.
