What inspired you to create Presume?
Running my own business was something I’d been thinking about since school. After studying Industrial Design at Dundee and then Information Experience Design at the RCA, I found myself unsure how to merge those two worlds. I continued working as a designer, which gradually evolved into 3D visualisation. Eventually leading to a full-time role at Joseph Joseph.
Along the way, I’d been freelancing on weekends for a range of clients. Then came a turning point: a former colleague got in touch with a large volume of work. I had to choose between keeping the safety of employment or taking the leap. That leap became Presume.
What really drove the decision was the desire for more creative freedom. To push rendering techniques further, dive deep into simulations, and carve out time to experiment beyond the constraints of a day job.

What are you proud of achieving?
There’s a lot I’m proud of when it comes to Presume. The name, the branding, the caliber of work, and the incredible clients we’ve had the chance to work with. But what I’m most proud of, and deeply thankful for is the support I received from friends, family, former colleagues, and my partner. Their encouragement was the push I needed to start Presume, and I couldn’t have done it without them.
At Presume, our main focus and love is for small details. We call them micro-imperfections, it gives our work that sense of authenticity. Those subtle touches really help trick the brain and make the visuals more believable. It’s always a balancing act. You want the rendering to feel real, but never damaged or undesirable. That’s where the artistry comes in, and why we consider ourselves artists, not just technicians.
How has KeyShot Studio helped you save time, save money, or enhance quality?
I’ve been using KeyShot for over a decade now. While I work with a variety of softwares, I always find myself coming back to KeyShot for its simplicity, speed, and the quality it delivers in such a short time. One of the biggest advantages for me is the real-time render view. It fundamentally changes the workflow. I can quickly zoom into details without needing to reset the camera, and what I see on screen is almost identical to the final output. That level of immediacy and accuracy makes a huge difference.
What KeyShot Studio features are most helpful to you?
I wouldn’t call it a single standout feature, it’s more the overall user interface of KeyShot that really sets it apart. Back when I was at university, I used to say that if Apple ever made rendering software, it would feel as intuitive and seamless as KeyShot. That’s the level of simplicity and clarity we’re talking about.
That said, if I had to highlight specific features, Geometry Mode and Split Surfaces are absolutely essential for me. I rely on them every day. Being able to manipulate geometry on one screen while instantly seeing the real-time updates on another is a game changer.

Where in your process do you find KeyShot Studio beneficial?
At Presume, our clients come to us with a wide range of needs. When the brief calls for photoreal, consistent product visuals, we turn to KeyShot Studio. It’s fast, reliable, and incredibly straightforward to use, which makes it an ideal fit for this kind of work.
To be honest, we use KeyShot so regularly that it’s hard to pinpoint a specific moment in our workflow. It’s woven into nearly every stage of our process.

Why would you recommend KeyShot Studio?
KeyShot holds a very special place in my 3D artist journey. It allowed me to carve out a niche in my career which at that point I did not know existed. I would recommend KeyShot because it allows you to start making renders look good very quickly and not have to spend hours learning complicated software.
