Intro

I am Berk Demir, a Turkey-based industrial designer and the founder of Berkdemirstudio. My journey into design began in childhood and eventually led me to pursue a formal education in Industrial Product Design. After gaining experience in various design studios and furniture companies, I realized that designing physical products and bringing them to life is what I enjoy most.

I believe that a good designer must first and foremost be a keen observer. I work with the motivation of bringing together the right forms with high-quality materials, aiming to create products that are both feasible and timeless. I believe in the power of simplicity, and I avoid including any line in my designs that does not support the story I want to tell. That, in essence, summarizes my design philosophy.

I also believe that visualization plays a crucial role in the design process. While turning my ideas into reality, KeyShot Studio, which I have used for many years, gives me a significant advantage by helping me select the most accurate materials quickly and present my designs in the most realistic way possible.

What sparked your interest in design?

Design has been a desire within me for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, a small floor lamp I made from a few pieces of cardboard felt like a design of my own. Over time, with the professional knowledge and experience I gained, this interest evolved into creating products that generate value, can be manufactured, and have commercial viability.

I believe that the foundation of a strong interior scene lies in proper composition.

Once the main structure of the design is established, many variables, such as the angle of a product’s shadow or the wattage of a floor lamp, can  dramatically change the atmosphere and perception of a scene.

What are some of your favorite projects?

Among my recent designs are the Sanmartino Sideboard, the Piera Side Table Set I designed last year, and the Kenda Coffee Table. The Lope Coffee Table Set and Lydia Planter are also among my personal favorites.

Where in your process do you use KeyShot Studio?

Contrary to common belief, I use KeyShot not only at the end of the design process but throughout it. For me, KeyShot is not just a visualization tool; it acts more like an assistant that directly influences my material and color decisions through its fast, real-time results.

What are your favorite KeyShot Studio tools or features?

The feature that resonates with me the most in KeyShot is its real-time rendering capability, which I can seamlessly integrate into my design process. This allows me to use the Keyshot Studio not only for final presentations but also as an active tool while developing the design. Thanks to the fast and user-friendly Material Graph interface, I can see the final outcome with ultra-realistic materials even while the product is still in development. Being able to instantly see the results of changes in materials and lighting is incredibly important for achieving a successful visualization. I also find its intuitive interface highly effective in helping me reach my desired results without losing focus.

In addition, the creative freedom offered by the Material Graph is a major advantage for me. Starting from a single texture, I can quickly generate countless variations. Sometimes I give wood a metallic feel to create a different alternative; other times I simulate the real-life reflections of textured glass, or I experiment entirely to discover new surface finishes.

On the animation side, KeyShot Studio provides great ease of use. The Animation Wizard offers a solution-oriented, designer-focused interface that can guide even someone with no animation experience toward professional results. Being able to digitally recreate everything that can be achieved with real cameras and studio equipment offers a tremendous sense of freedom. Seeing how every action within the program enhances visual quality is highly motivating as a designer.

What makes a good interior scene to you, and how does KeyShot help you achieve the results you want?

I believe that the foundation of a strong interior scene lies in proper composition. Once the main structure of the design is established, many variables, such as the angle of a product’s shadow or the wattage of a floor lamp, can significantly influence the overall composition. These details can dramatically change the atmosphere and perception of a scene.

For example, imagine you want to draw attention to a specific product within a scene. I believe that the right interventions at this stage determine the success of the composition. Sometimes directing strong sunlight onto that product, sometimes using depth of field to blur the foreground and background, or sometimes applying a Bloom effect to make the object stand out can achieve this effect.

For this reason, I develop my interior scenes simultaneously with the visualization process. Being able to quickly see the results of my adjustments in KeyShot Studio helps me reach the image I envision more efficiently without losing momentum.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in doing what you do?

My first advice to those who want to become designers is to make observation a habit. This could be a space they visit, a product they encounter, or even better, nature itself. In addition, consistently practicing design and visualization is essential, as it helps them express their ideas more clearly and efficiently. Exploring different materials, production methods, and user needs will broaden their perspective and enrich their repertoire. I also believe that staying open to continuous learning and not being afraid to experiment plays a crucial role in a designer’s development.

KeyShot is not just a visualization tool; it acts more like an assistant that directly influences my material and color decisions through its fast, real-time results.
