This is the Vo Pill Case. If you’re on any regular quantity of medication, you’re likely familiar with the standard Monday-Sunday pill box that makes sure you take your pills and makes sure everyone else knows you’re taking them as well. They’re massive, have the form factor of a bread box and the cool factor of a bed pan. Why shouldn’t they be less conspicuous and more attractive? That’s exactly what Haley Hill Pearson thought. The concept brought the Cal State Long Beach senior to this year’s International Home + Housewares show winning 2nd place and $2000 in the 22nd annual Student Design Competition. She used KeyShot to tell the story and describes to us how it helped.
Haley’s inspiration behind the Vo Weekly Pill Case came from being tired of the stigma associated with taking prescriptions in public. As something many deal with daily, “I felt that medication should enhance daily life, not define it, Haley relates. “For this reason, Vo is discreet and portable and, unlike other pill cases, will never compromise your personal image.”
She used SOLIDWORKS 2014 to model the product and prepare it for 3D printing. Using KeyShot, she prepared visuals that would be submitted for the competition. “KeyShot took my models to the next level. I needed to make ad campaign displays to really sell the idea and KeyShot provided the photorealistic look, making it look as good as any product on the market.”
Judges came away saying Haley provided excellent market analysis, considering user definition, human factors and concept testing. Overall, there were 246 project entries submitted by students at 34 colleges across the United States, Canada and Turkey. After graduation, Haley plans to travel with her family, while talking with companies who are passionate about design.
