Default Office is an industrial design practice based in west London. Directed by Alex D'Souza and Joe Ground, Default Office works across climate and consumer technology, homeware, FMCG and furniture. Their design ideology and creative services are employed by hardware start-ups, global brands and international organizations.

For us, industrial design and visualization really work together in developing and growing our practice. Our favorite projects are when we're entrusted with taking a project through an entire design process and then being able to work on creative visual assets ready for launch. We find this approach works so well, allowing us to have one creative vision behind the product itself and how it's represented. This cohesive direction, with aligned thinking across design, engineering and visuals, really sets our projects apart.

Using KeyShot for us isn't just an end-stage process either. It's often part of our creative workflow as a tool. From simulating how design concepts sit in different lighting conditions, midday sun to golden hour, or understanding refraction through clear interactive elements, it really is a design tool as well as a visualization tool.

Then when we're working on visuals, we feel we push KeyShot to its max. We've been working on large battery installations through to nuclear fusion simulations and embedding them into real contextual environments - often needing to develop new ways of working within the software.

We don't have one specific favorite feature of KeyShot, as for us the reason we keep using it is its adaptability. We love that we can use the same tool to mock up some quick lighting and materials in ten minutes to evaluate a concept or spend two weeks creating complex animations and virtual environments. It allows us to focus on creative input, dive deep when we need to, but not get held up by software when we don't.
