The KeyShot Conference
on 3D Rendering and Interactive Visuals

On May 5th, 2016, the first KeyShot RenderWorld Conference was held in Anaheim, California! With a day full of speakers, workshops and sessions, attendees captured insight into the KeyShot workflow from others across industries and gained valuable experience in using KeyShot to create amazing visuals.

Special presentations were given from Nike, TB&O, and others, with workshops on KeyShot workflow, material creation, lighting, animation and much more. Attendees had the opportunity to meet the KeyShot Team, experience live demos, network with other professionals, and see the latest Xeon 22 Core CPU technology from Intel, along with the powerful workstations from Lenovo.

The 1-day event was held at Anaheim Hilton, right across from Disneyland Park.

Jason Cardani is an Industrial Designer at Nike, Inc in Beaverton, Oregon. For the past 6 years he has worked in the Golf Category working primarily on Club Equipment and Accessories. The product he’s designed are in the bags of world class athletes including Tiger woods, Rory McIlroy, and Michelle Wie. With over 30 patents in the golf industry, he has designed and developed product that has delivered over $200 million in revenue for Nike. With experience in automotive, retail, and footwear, Jason is passionate about delivering beautiful, innovative solutions for modern golf athletes around the world.

As a graduate from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1997, he developed a passion for traditional art. His career began as a technical illustrator while devoting himself to family. Having an extensive and diverse portfolio, his work is featured in national television and print advertising, automotive brand websites, dealer catalogs and brochures, trade publications, apps and more.

Design to Marketing: Getting the Most Out of KeyShot

While KeyShot is good for visualizing design, what is often overlooked is the ability for the Marketing department to use KeyShot to produce finished imagery for packaging, advertising, collateral and web. This presentation concentrates on how to create a workflow that saves money and can speed up the time to market. There are features in today’s KeyShot which make this possible.

Steve Talkowski is a 3D digital artist that has worked as an Art Director, Animation Director, Character Designer/Modeler and Animator on a myriad of commercials for national brands as well as the feature films Joe’s Apartment, Ice Age, Alien Resurrection and the 1988 Academy Award winning short, Bunny. In 2008, Steve launched Sketchbot Studios and self-produced his first foray into the designer toy scene – the retro-styled, pencil-wielding robot, Sketchbot. Currently residing in Los Angeles, he is now in development on an animated TV series based on his robot creations.

Character Integration and HDRI Map Creation

See a live demonstration of Steve’s process for creating character visual concepts. He will show how he uses the Ricoh Theta S 360 spherical camera to quickly generate photos that can be combined into HDRI images for use with KeyShot. HDRI maps will be created, merged using Photoshop CC, then integrated with characters into a KeyShot scene to show the entire process.

Pip Tompkin was born in Nottingham, England. He graduated top of his year with 1st class honors majoring in Industrial Design from Northumbria University in Newcastle. He then attended the prestigious The Royal College of Art in London and gained a Masters of Industrial Design with a special examiners distinction. From 2001 -2005 he worked as a consultant to Dell, helping develop iconic and successful products for the gaming, education, consumer and enterprise markets. In 2005, he relocated to Los Angeles, accepting a Senior Design position at Nokia with a focus in developing phones for North American, European and Asian markets. During Pip’s three years at Nokia, his designs and thinking significantly increase sales of key products by millions, exceeding sales expectations. Pip also served on a board to create and align design strategies for Nokia’s Global portfolio. In December of 2008, Pip announced the launch of his design studio. Pip Tompkin’s philosophy, Assume Nothing together with his Big Think Big idea methodology, has helped develop award winning products and brands for numerous businesses; start-up and large corporations around the world. He actively promotes design education and his work has appeared in many publications.

Walters is an Industrial Designer who’s as comfortable designing/coding software as concept designing next generation products. He has been working in 3D since the 90’s and has authored both articles and books on 3D and 3D techniques. His YouTube Channel which deals with 3D applications and techniques has over 1000 subscribers. Early in his career, Walters was fortunate to co-found and CEO the Industrial Design firm Design Edge and the software design company Human Code, the latter which grew to 500+ with offices in San Francisco, Austin, Tokyo and Shanghai, and eventually sold to Sapient.

Cognitive Visualization of the Future

Walters, a long time KeyShot user, creates rapid future scenario visualizations for clients based on Altuit’s D1 process which includes a day long facilitation session. Recently completed projects include Hyperloop,Future of Wearables, Medical Ambulance Drone, and some IOT studies.

These projects are typically realized in KeyShot and have found their way onto the pages and screens of FastCo Design, Discovery Channel, CNBC, DesignBoom, and others.

Walters is currently working on the Digital Heroes project, a future look at providing sentry patrol for disabled vets using telepresence workstations, sentry robots, perch and stare drones and other semi-autonomous devices.

Design Process and workflow will be demonstrated, along with some Photoshop post effects to help create a sketchy look for KeyShot.
