How can I get this kind of reflections?
« on: May 17, 2013, 06:07:51 am »
Hi,

Whenever I use HFRIs, I fail to get reflections of this sort http://s519.photobucket.com/user/RG-Photography/media/Bonneville%202009/Chevy-5.jpg.html
Even with high res HDRIs, I get reflection blurry and distorted.
Could someone give me a hint on the ways to improve the thing?

Thanks a lot

It must be the material you are using to catch the reflections...

Do you have any roughness turned on ? That's a definite culprit.... obviously

And I always use ultra high res HDRI's upwards of 6000 x 3000, mostly studio though admittedly - but I have just done a couple of test renders using some exterior HDRI's and a DuPont paint from 'Blue/Green Metallics library' and I have crisp, clear reflections.

So my advice would be use ultra hi-res HDRI's and an extremely reflective paint (standard or DuPont) with zero roughness

Here are a couple of test renders, they were set up in 3 seconds, so there is no artistic merit in them !! the central metal ring does have 10% roughness, but the paint has none

I was looking at your renders, and you have one here that has sharp, crisp reflections  :-\...

Thanks, The Metal Master for the advice. I have been using hi res hdris without results that seemed satisfactory to me... I guess the reason has been in the settings. Will keep trying.
As of my render of the BRZ, it seems the only one that looked relatively realistic. Possibly, due to the hdri resolution as well as the settings.
Thanks again!
