Bumpmap or texture....
« on: May 04, 2010, 05:40:51 am »
I'm still new to this...  ;)
What's the difference between a 'bumpmap' and a 'texture'.
Often when I double-click on a material I get the option to specify both, and I'm confused....
Also, why do I get these options on some materials but not others?
Thanks

Bumpmap:-
Quote
Bump mapping is a computer graphics technique to make a rendered surface look more realistic by modeling the interaction of a bumpy surface texture with lights in the environment. Bump mapping does this by changing the brightness of the pixels on the surface in response to a heightmap that is specified for each surface.

Texture Mapping is just placing an image onto a surface :)

Where can I find the texturemapping option? I only see a bumpmap option.

Its at the top of the materials property dialogue box next to the diffuse colour button, however not all materials allow texture mapping so it won't appear with certain materials, such as glass for example.
