Animating between 2 materials
« on: September 25, 2019, 06:06:38 am »
Hello everyone,

Can you animate a fade between 2 materials? For exapmle from a Xray material to a metal material?
If so, how would I go about doing that?

Many thanks.

Kind
regards,
Per

As far as I know, that is not a current ability. Not sure if it is planned for v9 or not.

In current state, you would have to set up 2 renderings, one with one material and 1 with the other and handle the fade between them in post prod.  Not sure on the exact workflow if you're using studios, but I think it's essentially the same, it may just be easier to set up your animation to render in multiple sections.

Hey Per, see if this works for you. Assuming you want to fade from Xray to metal, start with your metal material applied to your part. Then in the Material Graph add the Xray material as a label to the metal material. Use a number fade from 1 to 0 connected to the opacity of the Xray material and that should be it. I did a quick test and it seemed to work, so hopefully it works for your particular need!
