Animation of flying chips during a milling operation
« on: February 14, 2019, 04:44:23 am »
Can anyon tell me if there is an easier way of making a more realistic representation of the Chips ?

Cheers
Rob

Honestly, this is a scenario that probably is best handled by a program that can do particle animations. It depends on how realistic you're trying to get. Good news is that KeyShot can import an animation saved as an Alembic format. This would allow you to import such an animation into KeyShot and then add materials and lighting and render it out.

hey Will,
while you are bringing this up:
I have a lot of problems bringing particle animations from Blender into KS !
I have read a ton of information, pointless.
I also saw your post on the Blender forum!
your best shot so far was a script ?!
any news on this side ?
the animation for something like this would not be too problematic in Blender ...

cheers

I did ask on a forum once because I was trying to figure it out. Honestly, it's been a while since I used Blender or tried any particle stuff. I believe that it will work if you look at the Alembic export settings and make sure you're exporting mesh. Once the particle sim has been made, then you convert the cached sim to geometry. Then, you export the Alembic and be sure to enable 'triangulate mesh' in the alembic export settings. I think I got this to work before, but again, it's been a long time.

Best of luck. I'd be interested to see what you find out.

If it was me ( i use C4D) I would start by splitting the block into separate parts, then apply a Voronoi Fracture to the piece that needs  to be chipped away, I would then apply some simulation tags to this block, the drill and floor and adjust everything until it looks right, then bake to Alembic for Keyshot.

Ive attached a quick example

Do you mean the old script that was used in Keyshot 6 to render .obj seqs?

Keyshot does not support particles/point clouds..etc, everything has to be a mesh which can mean huge files sizes, but it can be done,  what are you trying to bring in?
