How to improve metal look
« on: September 12, 2018, 11:45:01 pm »
Hello,

please help a bit.
(version: KeyShot 7)
I'm struggling with metal look for my model, I need it with chromatic shining, but all I get is not atractive greyness.
I really tried everything, but as I'm beginner to rendering it seems that I cannot go further without an advice.

Hope for your help, thanx

You have to understand that smooth metallic surface like that are basically all reflection mixed with a bit of color. So, if you don't have anything to reflect in your environment, you will not get anything back...
Try to use an environment with a black background and some white panels, this will get you a typical 'chrome look'. Then move the panels around in your environment editor, blur them, change color, etc. and you will see what it does to your metallic surfaces.

Good luck!

RRIS, I was told to put this on white background, can I make it with such background?

Sure, if you go to the Environment panel, there's an option to set the background to a solid color (or use a suitable backplate).

Alternatively, you can keep the bottom half of your environment white, and put the softboxes all in the top half.
