How to make a toon look like this?
« on: May 27, 2017, 12:48:08 pm »

I already saw the downloadable toon materials from the website, specifically three of them, but they're no where near look like this

Thanks Gracias Arigato Buenas Noches!

Definitely one of the most useless 'community' I've ever seen in terms of quality of help provided

With that sort of attitude it will probably stay that way for you.

Regardless, with a 10 second google search I came up with a plethora of options. A lot of times getting the results you are looking for is a lot of trial and error, not someone telling you what buttons to push.

While none of these might answer your question directly, you might get some ideas to work with to get the look you want.

That all being said, it is unusual that posts are not responded to. The rate of Luxion people responding to questions is one of the highest participation rates of any software forums I've ever seen.

Good luck!

Rudeness has never been a good strategy to get help. ;)

Anyway...
You can match this result in KeyShot by using the Toon material, as Matt suggested in the post above.
The trick for getting the "cel shading" is to turn on the 'Environment Shadows' option in the Toon material and use an HDRI with a very small Pin light on a black background. You will want to set the Shadow color of the Toon material to a slightly darker version of the Color.
As Matt also said, experimentation is key. There is no fixed recipe.

I have made a sample scene in KeyShot 7. I went "all in" and made extensive use of the Material Graph, so you may want to view this in KeyShot 7 Pro (or a full trial). All materials are Toon.
Download here.
I used this great "Jet Drone" model from GrabCAD.

I hope this helps.

note: You can change the 'Default Color' in the 'Vertex Color' node (labeled 'BASE COLOR') to make quick color variations.
For this image I just changed the BASE COLOR nodes.

Hey DriesV,
I tried to download the two zip files (I was dying to play with this), and they won't unzip. I've downloaded them several times, and they fail each time. Any chance you can upload them again? They look like fun to experiment with.

Hmm, it worked fine for me with 7-Zip. ???
I have  uploaded the bip file to my Google Drive now and put the link in my first post.

I hope that works for you. :)
