Adding new parts to my scene changes pivot points

I have a scene with a chair. I have exploded the chair to show how it is assembled. During the exploded view animation there are several pivots (flipping the chair over, and back again). After this step was done I wanted to show an alternative leg assembly being installed. I imported the new parts but this causes the pivot points I've already established to change, making all the parts in the original chair misaligned. What is causing this and how do I fix it?

The original animation took several days to complete, so I'd rather not start over.
