i7 5820K 3.3 GHz
« on: July 09, 2015, 06:01:58 pm »
Decided it was time to replace the old i7 920 (35.4 FPS @ 2.66 GHz).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Home build
Win 7 64 bit
i7 5820K (6 core, 12 HT)
KeyShot 5

Stock 3.3 GHz: 81.6 FPS
OC 4.0 GHz: 95.0 FPS
OC 4.5 GHz: 107.3 FPS

Decided to give an update now that KeyShot 6 has been released for a bit:

OC 4.3 GHz: 124.0 FPS (KS 6.0)
I have the voltage set at 1.215 and with full load and fans maxed, the processor warms up to around 58C ~ 63C degrees. Though, I usually run the fans a bit slower (quieter) and it still runs fairly cool at 62C ~ 66C degrees.

Nice gain - CPU is doing well to stay at those temperatures - Water cooled ?

Yes, decided to use this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103181

Keeps the CPU cool under full load at about 50% fan speed - stays nice and quiet.

What is cool for you?

With my 5820k, on Windows 8.1 i had:

Stock (3,3Ghz): 81.6 FPS
OC (@3,8Ghz): 90.2 FPS

OC got too hot for me this summer, i got into the low 80's but with an average air cooling. On Stock i am about 65° now in summer.

Still running @ 4.3 GHz (I'll probably keep it this way) - it stays around mid 20's C during most tasks and under full load it stays around mid 60's. I never hear the fans kick on - looks like they are set at 50% speed at this temperature (based on the BIOS configuration). I could modify the fan speed to kick on at a lower temp, to get the temperature down even more but thought it was good where it's at. I read that anything under 80 Celsius is idea or it starts to shorten the CPU lifespan. I highly recommend water cooling for it, if you're overclocking.
