cki-vangWhat first sparked your interest in becoming an CG/Concept Artist?
I’ve always drawn robots on paper, but after time, I lost my technique. I adored the process, creating the immages, but had become more involved in management as a supervisor and lead artist. After a particularly hard day, I was frustrated I wasn’t drawing like before. I missed it. I realize the importance of doing what we like most, so have set out to create my own artbook with my own creations, to re-discover my love for drawing and refresh my portfolio.

What are some highlights throughout your career?
My career will totally changed when I finish publishing my images on my website, but I remember two highlights–the first, when I became a Supervisor and, the second, when I became Concept Designer.

What is your primary 3d modeling software? Why?
One word, ZBrush. The ability to find new shapes and work the silhouette is incredible. It’s complete freedom, no polygon constraint and so many tools to create so many possibilities. It’s so important for me that all my modeling is done in ZBrush.

Where in the process do you use KeyShot?
First, I use KeyShot after creating a rough 3D concept. I use it to quickly render my sculpt, then overpaint in Photoshop to improve the overall design. I also use it for the final result. When I finish my model, I work the lighting, the material, then produce the final render. It’s so fast and clean. I love KeyShot.

KeyShot is the most intuitive rendering tool to use to create beautiful design presentations quickly. It has helped me become effective in creating concept designs.”

What makes KeyShot an important tool to have?
KeyShot is the most intuitive rendering tool to use to create beautiful design presentations quickly. It has helped me become effective in creating concept designs. And, just so you know, all of my images on the Concept 3D and PRO sections of my website are only rendered with KeyShot.

What advice would you give to someone interested in becoming a Concept Designer?
I would say, condition yourself to achieve the goal. Push yourself. Create what you enjoy and always cultivate your inspiration.
