Intro
Life Fitness is a well-established manufacturer of fitness equipment, known for its innovation and presence in commercial and home gyms worldwide. The company was founded in 1968 when Dr. Keene Dimick developed the Lifecycle, the first electronic exercise bike. This innovation set the foundation for Life Fitness’s growth as a leader in the fitness industry.

Life Fitness designs and manufactures a wide range of fitness products, including cardio and strength equipment under multiple brands, such as Hammer Strength, and ICG (Indoor Cycling Group). Its equipment is widely used in commercial gyms, hotels, rehabilitation centers, and home gyms around the world.

Director of Product Development Paul Taylor shared with us how Hub has helped his team be better organized and work more efficiently.

How long has Life Fitness used KeyShot Studio, and for what kind of projects?
We’ve been using KeyShot Studio since 2010, to create realistic visuals of fitness equipment throughout the design process. Early on, we generate quick renders to explore materials, colors, and forms, helping with internal reviews and design decisions. As the concept evolves, we refine these visuals for stakeholder approvals, using high-quality images to showcase product features. At the final stage of a project, we use KeyShot to produce visuals for marketing assets across web, social media, sales materials, and more.
What kinds of organizational or logistical challenges was the design team facing?
Before implementing KeyShot Hub, managing and sharing assets—such as .bip files, materials, and environments—was a challenge. We struggled with version control, file accessibility, and repeated requests for the same images from other departments, leading to inefficiencies and frustration.

We can quickly find and share materials, environments, and studio setups, ensuring consistency across projects. This eliminates redundant requests, reduces time spent searching for files, and improves cross-team collaboration between design, marketing, and sales.”

How has KeyShot Hub helped improve organization, efficiency and final quality?
With KeyShot Hub, we now have a centralized platform where all assets are securely stored and easily accessible. We can quickly find and share materials, environments, and studio setups, ensuring consistency across projects. This eliminates redundant requests, reduces time spent searching for files, and improves cross-team collaboration between design, marketing, and sales. It has helped us streamline workflows and enhance communication and has enabled a more efficient and cohesive creative process.

We still haven’t fully implemented Hub in all of our processes, but I expect when we do, we’ll be saving at least 1-2 hours per week total as team.
