Dream Drops has the tagline of “Tailor-made products for epic marketing.” The reality is that it is so much more. Yet, one word in there captures it all. Epic. Dream Drops is able to take on the creative, design, engineering, and production process to deliver thoughtful, multi-sensory and memorable experiences. We talk with Founder and CPO, Ram Solell, to learn more and how they use KeyShot throughout their process.

What sparked your interest in Industrial and Product Design and led to Dream Drops?
I wanted to study architecture and wasn’t aware that industrial & product design were separate professions. After getting familiar with industrial design, I understood that most of my passion for architecture comes from my love for products, and I chose to go that route.

At the end of my third year, I was accepted to intern with Karim Rashid, and at the end of my studies, I flew to New York. I stayed there for close to a year and worked with him directly. His studio combines product design, architecture, interior design, and graphic design, a wonderfully designed and precise space, and every item in the offices is a design by Rashid. The projects I was involved in touched on all areas of design – lighting fixtures, furniture, and various products for leading companies such as Fontana Arte, Tonelli, Talent.

The internship experience especially left me with the desire to recreate the diverse and complex work environment in my country. Above all, I understood that one must be daring to get to exciting places in the world of design. Thus, the world of advertising, which combines many strategies, creativity, and the need to stand out and attract the eye, can create tremendous value in using multidisciplinary design. These are the reasons I chose to start Dream Drops and focus on offering high-end visual merchandising (with an emphasis on 3D printing) that delivers a global impact.

What’s unique about the approach you take on a project?
At Dream Drops, we develop and implement marketing ideas, so we have to be profoundly appealing while delivering meticulous results in a short lead time. Our team provides a complete solution starting from the creative phase, usually with the relevant executives in the company/advertising agency, and develops a unique concept for a physical product (limited edition, technological demonstrations, products for influencers, etc.). Next, we build a development team for the chosen concept and implement it, emphasizing technological innovation (3D printing and more), meticulous and unusual design. Our clients are using our products as materials for marketing campaigns in various media outlets.

Where in the process is KeyShot used?

KeyShot is used throughout our process, from the initial design phase, during the CMF process, and onto the production phase with the new 3MF format and export features. We now use KeyShot as our leading export software for full-color 3D printing on the Stratasys J-series printers. This new process is about 85% more efficient than the other solutions we used and delivers better results.

What are some projects you have used KeyShot on?

Dream Drops have used KeyShot in most of our projects, such as Soda Stream’s Royal Edition, Stratasys’s My COVID Hero, Doritos’s Towel Bag, and others. I used KeyShot all the time during my internship at Karim Rashid’s studio.

Has KeyShot helped save time, money and/or improve quality?
It sure did! The simplicity of utilizing the features in KeyShot is unparalleled. The fantastic quality and the short rendering time have helped us save countless hours and shorten the lead time, which has saved a lot of money over the years.

What advice would you give to others interested in doing what you do?
I suggest allocating your time and not fear using cutting-edge technologies and new features on your projects.
Usually, we use what we know works, even if it takes a long time. The fear of failure and new, more streamlined funnels constrict you from expanding your operation and making the most of the time you have. Your clients want quick and quality results, and KeyShot is the optimal solution for it.
